What exactly is EPD certification?
Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a type III ecolabel according to ISO 14020 and is transparent, verified and objective data and information on the environmental impact of a product throughout its life cycle. Certification is based on European standards.
In the case of construction products, the life cycle stages that can be analysed in an EPD are:
- 1st stage of raw materials and manufacturing: supply of raw materials, transport and manufacturing.
- 2nd stage of distribution: transport and installation.
- 3rd stage of use: use, maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, energy and water consumption in service.
- 4th end-of-life stage: demolition, waste transport and disposal.
- 5th stage of potential for reuse and/or recycling.
Al analizar el ciclo de vida del producto, podemos evaluar el impacto ambiental e identificar las etapas en las que se pueden introducir cambios para minimizar el impacto negativo definido. In this way, environmental product declarations help you to make conscious purchasing decisions that take into account sustainable and ecological aspects.
At La Escandella we work to ensure that our products meet the highest quality standards. This DAP certificate and many more, you can find them in the download section or in this link.
Currently EPDs are voluntary certifications, but they are very useful in assessing the environmental performance of buildings or construction sites, because they provide clear and rigorous information on construction products.
