This is an operation of rehabilitation and recovery of the old Central Food Market of Atarazanas, as well as an operation of replacement of the existing stalls, as they do not meet the necessary conditions required at present. It is a unique building, in iron structure, from the end of the 19th century, with the commercial space located on the ground floor, at street level, structured in three specific areas for the commercialisation, respectively, of fruit and vegetable products, fish and meat.
The project aims to recover the original design of the old Atarazanas Market under the layout of the architect Rucoba, enhancing its architectural character and monumentality.
For the refurbishment of the roof, it has been decided to maintain the essence of the original roof by using flat tiles. As a peculiarity, red ceramic tiles have been combined with green glazed ceramic tiles, which brings light and modernity to the building.
